Allan Border AM played 156 Test matches for Australia and was captain for 93 of these matches. At the time of his retirement in 1994 he held records for most Test matches featured in, most Tests as a Captain, most consecutive Tests and most catches. His batting average was 50.56. There is no denying he was a legend of the sport and continued his involvement after retirement as an Australian selector and in more recent times, a commentator.

Allan was one of 55 inaugural inductees to the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame showing the respect he holds internationally as well as in Australia.

Allan and his family grew up opposite what was then called Mosman Oval, and he played his junior cricket for Mosman, progressing to his First Grade debut at the age of 16 while he was still at school.

It was only fitting to rename the oval after one of our local cricketing greats. Despite living in Queensland, Allan is still a huge supporter of the Mosman Cricket Club and was a major part of the celebrations when Mosman won both the 1st and 2nd Grade Premierships in 2021/22 for the first time ever.

In 2021 the rebuilding of the pavilion at Allan Border Oval commenced with a state of the art facility currently well under way for completion in early 2024. As part of the redevelopment of the pavilion, we would like to commission a bronze statue of Allan Border to have a permanent presence at the ground.
